About Northeast Hearing & Speech
Northeast Hearing & Speech, a non-profit hearing and speech center, has been serving the communities of Southern Maine since 1924. Our dedicated clinicians offer a complete range of services to help people of all ages hear, speak, and communicate. Our community outreach impacts thousands of people in need every year.
We are proud to have very highly qualified staff of professionals who work together as a team to meet the need of our clients. Each clinician holds a minimum of a masters degree, a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association or the American Academy of Audiologists, and is licensed by the State of Maine.
Audiology Service
Audiologists provide comprehensive hearing evaluations for newborns to the elderly and dispense hearing aids and assistive listening devices from the leading hearing aid manufacturers.
Our certified Audiologists provide evaluations, hearing aids and assistive technology from the leading hearing aid manufacturers, and education and counseling. We are information providers and caregivers, spending the time needed to ensure you are receiving what’s best for you.
Speech-Language Pathologists
Speech-Language Pathologists provide speech-language evaluations and therapy for children and adults with speech-language impairments, language/learning disabilities, stuttering, autism, and a variety of other neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Community Outreach
Northeast Hearing & Speech is actively involved in several community initiatives to improve Kindergarten readiness and third grade reading levels through workshops for parents and teachers about how to support language and literacy development in children.

Our mission is “Helping People Communicate”. Our purpose is to provide services to all who need them. We are committed to helping people of all ages to hear, speak, and communicate.
Accreditations
Northeast Hearing & Speech is accredited by the National Association of Speech and Hearing Centers and has been a member agency of the United Way of Greater Portland since 1957. All of our clinicians are certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association or the American Academy of Audiology.
Affiliations
Our staff works closely with Child Development Services Maine’s early intervention system, and with numerous preschool and Head Start programs in the greater Portland area. We are active in several community based initiatives dedicated to improving outcomes for children birth-8 including Starting Strong and the Westbrook Children’s Project. We are a partner with United Way and Thrive 2027, a collective community vision for how to make a greater Portland even stronger.
